ChatGPT Prompts for Wedding Planning

Using ChatGPT for Wedding Planning

Wedding planning can feel like a second job, especially when balancing life, work, and the million little details that make up a wedding day. But with ChatGPT and other AI tools at our fingertips, there are ways to streamline some of these tasks and save serious time.

However, as this image might suggest, ChatGPT doesn't always nail it. In this post, I'll dive into five ways ChatGPT can be your best friend for wedding planning, and three instances where you might want to give it a hard pass to avoid a potential wedding mishap.

1. Perfecting Wording and Phrasing

Writing wedding vows, speeches, or even the “how we met” story on your website can be daunting. If you’re struggling to find the right words, ChatGPT can help create an outline or provide a bit of inspiration.

Sample Prompts:

  • “I need inspiration for wedding vows. Can you brainstorm personalized vows based on my partner’s love for adventure and travel?”

  • “Can you help me write a fun ‘How We Met’ story for our wedding website?”

  • “Please suggest invitation wording for a semi-formal beachside wedding.”

Note: You’ll want to put your personal touch on whatever ChatGPT generates, but it’s a great tool to get started!

2. Finding Wedding and Honeymoon Inspiration

In the early planning stages, ChatGPT can help you narrow down ideas without endless scrolling. Whether you're visual or more idea-driven, AI can suggest wedding styles, honeymoon spots, and more.

Sample Prompts:

  • “What are some trending wedding color palettes for 2025?”

  • “Can you recommend rustic wedding theme ideas, including decor and venue suggestions?”

  • “We’re looking for honeymoon destinations within a 5-hour flight of Miami that are 80+ degrees in October.”

3. Building Budgets and Checklists

ChatGPT can help you build a rough budget outline or checklists for wedding planning, breaking down expenses based on your priorities.

Sample Prompts:

  • “Help me create a wedding budget for 150 guests with a total budget of $50,000.”

  • “We’re getting married in 10 months. Can you create a checklist broken down by month?”

  • “What are some ways to save on wedding costs?”

4. Curating Vendor Questions

Rather than using ChatGPT to find vendors, use it to draft lists of important questions to ask vendors. Knowing what to ask is half the battle!

Sample Prompts:

  • “What questions should we ask when touring potential wedding venues?”

  • “What should we look for when choosing a wedding photographer?”

  • “Can you suggest questions for interviewing a caterer?”

5. Hashtags & General Brainstorming

ChatGPT is great for brainstorming ideas that help personalize your day, from custom hashtags to signature drinks.

Sample Prompts:

  • “Help us create a music list for the reception. We love Taylor Swift and ’90s music but don’t want line dances.”

  • “Can you give me 10 signature drink ideas with champagne as a base and incorporate our dog Maisie in the names?”

  • “What are creative alternatives to the traditional guest book?”

3 Things to Avoid Using ChatGPT for in Wedding Planning

Not every task can (or should) be handled by AI. Here are three areas where using ChatGPT may cause more harm than good.

1. Finalizing Your Wedding Day Timeline

Creating a realistic timeline is crucial for a smooth day, but AI isn’t equipped to consider the real-time specifics of your wedding day logistics, like vendor schedules and travel times between locations.

Avoid Prompts Like: “Can you create a detailed wedding day timeline?”

Instead, work with your vendor team to ensure the timeline fits your specific needs and addresses critical logistics.

2. Setting the Budget

While ChatGPT can generate a starting point, it won’t capture all the nuances of vendor pricing, local costs, and unexpected expenses, so use AI for preliminary ideas but rely on actual quotes and expert advice for final decisions.

Caution with Prompts Like: “Help me create a complete wedding budget.”

3. Choosing Vendors

Finding quality vendors requires personal connections, reviews, and often site visits. Rather than using AI to find vendors, rely on established platforms like The Knot, WeddingWire, and Zola for vendor discovery.

Avoid Prompts Like: “Find wedding photographers near me.”
